When World War One broke out, Britain, France and Russia stood on the one side, while Germany, Austro-Hungarian Empire and Ottoman Empire stood on the other. The war between the two camps claimed the lives of millions, fomenting divisions among neighbouring peoples and causing unending pains. In each belligerent country, rulers resorted to the same lie in order to propel labourers into battle fronts.
